Location. The Castle at Skylands Manor is set amid the manicured grounds and gardens of the New Jersey State Botanical Gardens in Ringwood, N.J. The botanical gardens and castle are located within the Ringwood State Park, which also offers swimming, boating, fishing and boat rentals at the Shepherd Lake Recreation Area. The historic Ringwood Manor, which is open for tours, and the Thunder Mountain Skeet Range are also located in the park.
Features. This 54 room stone and half timber mansion was designed by renowned architect John Russell Pope in the 1920s in the Tudor Revival style. The mansion features elaborately carved staircases, wood paneled walls, molded plaster ceilings ranging in height from eight to 25 feet, carved stone doorways, fireplaces and a traditional Great Hall. The Castle at Skylands Manor features a notable collection of antique stained glass medallions set in leaded windows from 16th century German, Swiss and Bavarian historical sites. An elegant Old World style ballroom, lakeside chapel, formal gardens and lawns, stone patio and gourmet catering are available for weddings and social events. Complimentary continental breakfasts are provided each morning in the marble breakfast room or on the veranda overlooking the gardens. Snacks are spirits are available through the 24 hour concierge desk. Pets are not allowed at the property.
